LG smart TVs run webOS, LG's own operating system. As with Samsung's Tizen, Android apps can't be installed, so you have two routes to IPTV: a player from the LG Content Store, or an external streaming device.
Option 1: A player from the LG Content Store
Open the LG Content Store (sometimes shown as "Apps") from the home screen and search for IPTV players.
Things to know:
- Availability changes over time and can differ between countries and TV model years.
- Some players need activation through the developer's website, sometimes with a fee charged by the developer. IPTV Apollo doesn't make or sell player apps.
- Uploading details: many webOS players let you add your playlist or login from a phone or computer browser, which is far easier than typing a long URL with the remote.
Once installed, you'll add an M3U playlist URL or an Xtream Codes login. See how to add an M3U playlist or how to configure Xtream Codes.
Option 2: Use an external streaming device
A streaming stick or box in a spare HDMI port opens up a much wider choice of players and doesn't depend on which apps LG's store offers for your TV:
- Amazon Fire TV Stick
- Google TV and Android TV devices
- Apple TV
Comparing the options
| LG Content Store app | External streaming device | |
|---|---|---|
| Extra hardware | None | Stick or box |
| Player choice | Limited, varies | Much wider |
| Remote | LG Magic Remote | Device's own remote |
| Performance | TV's processor | Often better on a dedicated device |
Before you start
- Update webOS: Settings → General → About This TV → Check for updates (menu paths vary by year).
- Note your TV's model year, which affects app availability.
- Use Ethernet if the TV is near your router.
- Know your access method — M3U or Xtream Codes. See the M3U and Xtream explainer.
Tips
- The LG Magic Remote's pointer makes navigating some players easier — try it if arrow-key navigation feels slow.
- Turn off motion-smoothing picture modes if live sport looks unnatural; this is a TV picture setting, not an IPTV issue.
- If sound is delayed, check the TV's audio output settings and any soundbar sync options. See audio and video out of sync.
- Keep your favourites organised: how to organize channels and favorites.
