Samsung smart TVs run Tizen, Samsung's own operating system. That means Android apps aren't available, and your IPTV options come down to two routes: a player from Samsung's app store, or an external streaming device plugged into the TV.
Option 1: A player from the Samsung app store
Samsung TVs have their own app store, reached from the Apps section of the home screen. Some IPTV player apps are available there.
Things to know:
- Availability varies by region and by TV model year. Older TVs may not see newer apps.
- Some players require activation on the developer's website, sometimes for a fee. This is between you and the app developer — IPTV Apollo doesn't make or sell player apps.
- Entering details: many TV players let you upload your playlist or login details through a web page instead of typing with the remote.
If you find a suitable player, you'll typically enter an M3U playlist URL or an Xtream Codes login. See how to connect an IPTV player to your subscription.
Option 2: Use an external streaming device
Plugging a streaming device into a spare HDMI port gives you access to a much larger choice of players:
- Amazon Fire TV Stick — see IPTV on Fire TV Stick
- Google TV / Android TV devices — see IPTV on Google TV
- Apple TV — see IPTV on Apple TV
This is often the more flexible option, and it means your setup doesn't depend on which apps Samsung's store carries for your TV model.
Comparing the two options
| Samsung store app | External streaming device | |
|---|---|---|
| Extra hardware | None | Streaming stick or box |
| Choice of players | Limited, varies by model | Much wider |
| Performance | Depends on TV's processor | Depends on the device; often better |
| Updates | Via the TV | Via the device |
Before you start
- Check your TV's model year and software: Settings → Support → About This TV (menu names vary by year).
- Update the TV software: Settings → Support → Software Update.
- Check your connection: Samsung TVs usually have an Ethernet port — use it if you can.
- Know your access method: M3U or Xtream Codes. See our comparison of playlists and Xtream logins.
Tips for a smooth experience
- If the built-in player feels slow with a large playlist, an external device may perform better.
- Use favourites to keep your main channels at the top. See organizing channels and favorites.
- If picture or sound is out of sync, check the TV's audio settings and the player's decoder options. See audio and video out of sync.
